Events and peak season in Dubai: the calendar that moves prices

Dubai's major annual events (shopping, food, sports) and how they affect hotel availability and pricing.

Dubai builds its year around a calendar of festivals and events that do more than entertain: they drive tourism, hotel occupancy and, as a direct result, accommodation prices. Knowing this calendar helps you decide when to travel based on your budget, and what to expect if you happen to book right in the middle of one of these peaks.

A calendar built for the whole year

In November 2025, the Dubai Media Office unveiled the 2026 Retail Calendar, which Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism described as its tenth edition, marking a decade since its 2017 launch. This calendar groups the city’s major commercial and festive events into a single roadmap, aimed at both visitors and the retail and hospitality sectors.

Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF)

The city’s flagship event is the Dubai Shopping Festival, which, per that same calendar, runs from December 5, 2025 to January 11, 2026 — 38 days, in what was presented as its 31st edition. It’s the year’s busiest commercial stretch, with widespread discounts, raffles and shows that overlap with the year-end holidays, already one of the city’s highest-demand periods for hotels.

Dubai Summer Surprises and the low season

At the other end of the year, from July 3 to August 30, 2026, comes Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), which includes the Great Dubai Summer Sale, the family-oriented Modesh World initiative, raffles, and “back to school” offers. Summer in Dubai is, because of the heat, the lowest-demand tourist season, and this event is specifically designed to keep consumption and tourism going through the hottest months, when it’s generally easier to find lower accommodation rates.

Ramadan, Eid and other religious and cultural milestones

The calendar also marks the Ramadan-and-Eid period in Dubai as running roughly from February 16 to March 22, 2026, followed by Eid Al Adha between May 22 and 31. These dates depend on the lunar calendar and are officially confirmed close to each occasion. The calendar also notes Chinese New Year, between February 13 and 22, 2026, a period with strong visitor traffic from Asia.

Major sports and entertainment fixtures

Throughout the year, Dubai hosts fixed-calendar international sporting events that draw visitors specifically for that reason — tennis tournaments, high-profile horse racing and marathons, concentrated mostly in the cooler months (November to March), which also overlap with the city’s general high season. The 2026 calendar also adds the Dubai Esports and Games Festival, from May 8 to 24, in its fifth edition, and the Dubai Fitness Challenge, from October 31 to November 29, marking its tenth anniversary in 2026 with free sports activities across the city.

The rest of the annual calendar

Rounding out the year are the Dubai Home Festival (October 16 to November 1), the Festival of Lights, which coincides with Diwali (November 2 to 12), and Eid Al Etihad, marking UAE National Day between November 30 and December 3 — right before the next Dubai Shopping Festival cycle kicks off.

What this means for travelers

In general terms, the cooler season (November through March) concentrates most of the year’s major events along with the highest hotel demand, so it’s worth booking well in advance if your trip falls in that window, particularly around the Dubai Shopping Festival and year-end. Summer, by contrast, tends to offer more accessible rates, though with considerably higher temperatures and a different city rhythm, supported by events like DSS designed specifically to draw visitors during that season.

In summary

  • Dubai’s 2026 Retail Calendar, unveiled by the Dubai Media Office in November 2025, marks its tenth edition and groups together the year’s major events.
  • The Dubai Shopping Festival (December 5, 2025 to January 11, 2026, 31st edition) is the year’s strongest commercial and tourism peak.
  • Dubai Summer Surprises (July 3 to August 30, 2026) drives tourism during the slow summer season.
  • Ramadan and Eid (dates confirmed close to the event, roughly between February and May 2026) and cooler-season sporting events also shape hotel demand.
  • November to March is Dubai’s general high season; booking ahead during those months is key to better rates.
